Author Biography

Wim Pijbes

 Wim Pijbes is a Dutch historian and since 2008 Director of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. His initiatives there have included the museum's refurbishment and reopening in April 2013. From 1998-2008 he was curator and director of the Kunsthal Rotterdam. Pijbes is a Chair of Droog Design and board member of the Rembrandt Society. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence. Wim Pijbes was jury member for several cultural projects, including the Amsterdam Stedelijk Museum, the Budapest Liget Project, and the UK Art Fund Prize for Museum of the Year. As of 2016, Wim Pijbes is a Humanitas Professor in the History of Art at Cambridge University. He has lectured and written extensively on art, artists, and the role of museums in society. His publications include a series of books on art for young readers, including Het kleine Schilderboek (The Little Book on Painting) (2002) and Rijksmuseum ABC (2015).
