Abstract

If the Spanish Armada had had distributed information for shared awareness, we'd all be speaking Spanish now. Companies such as GE that do have it are among the most successful. The U.S. military has spent millions of dollars demonstrating that shared situational awareness improves combat effectiveness. Let's look at some examples, and then let's apply the same ideas to intranets and to corporate use of the Internet. Does better distribution of corporate information lead to shared awareness and increased business competitiveness?
