Gerald Piffl, born in Vienna, is a photography historian. After an apprenticeship as photographer, he undertook academic studies in communication science and theatre, film and media. From 1995 to 2002, he was freelance at the Austrian Photographic gallery, Rupertinum in Salzburg. In 2002 and 2003, he participated in a research project on the history of theatre photography at the Austrian Theatre Museum. Since 2004 he has been head of the agency of IMAGNO Brandstätter Images. He is an administrator of several photographic estates, curator and author
